Only the Essentials
Every Puerto Rican knows the history of their people, from its beginnings with the indigenous Taíno people, until the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors and the subsequent addition of enslaved Africans. As is often the case, these different races, which under other circumstances would not have been found in company of the other, created a racial mixture that is very unique and, at the same time, difficult to identify.
In order to put an end to what seemed like a myth, and after DNA tests, it is confirmed: the mixture of three races, not only is not myth, but it is real in the contemporary Puerto Rican.
Three races meet violently by circumstances of their time and, by sharing the same soil, are irrevocably united in a single blood, creating a new people. Just like the union of these three races, all very different from each other but also beautiful in their individual qualities, took place in the past of the modern Puerto Rican, in this collection, a series of fabrics and garments are mixed together to create a single look. The combinations are not always predictable, and the transition point from one fabric to another is only noticeable through its unique characteristics. However, it is impossible to get the total look if even one of the pieces is not present.
Like the exposed materials of architectural minimalism, beautiful in their lack of ornamentation, and contrasting smooth and polished surfaces with rough and matte surfaces, so are the fabrics and individual garments of this collection mixed to compose each look. No ornamentation, no coatings or color, Only the Essentials.
The mixture of races that make up the Puerto Rican was the inspiration for this collection. As a symbolic detail, each look bears the name of a woman, a direct ascendant, of the designer's family tree.

Only the Essentials
Intangible Legacy/Only the Essentials is the result of several months of creative research
and concept development. The aim of this project was to create two collections of
Bridalwear consisting of 10 final looks each, based on a concept chosen by the student.
The 20 looks that make up these collections were inspired by the mixture of races that
create an ethnic group. As part of the project, two of the looks have been made to wear, one from each collection.
Only the Essentials had the additional challenge of creating a 10 look collection
around the theme of Minimalist Architecture for Bridal Designer Cristina Tamborero.
